BERESHIT

The parashot for this week is ...

The study below is a compiliation of lessons learnt from the parashot for this week beginning from the torah through the prophets and the brit chadash. The  portions include

  • Genesis 1;1-6;8 (Torah)

  • josh 1;1-7

  • ps 1-7

  • Matt 1:1-6:16 (Brit chadasha)

  • Isa 42 :5 -43:10  (half torah)

BERESHIT means in the beginning.now some may ask the beginning of what ? It's the beginning of another torah year and our lives. With intent look at the scripture we have brought out lessons we need to imbibe before taking this torah tour.

  • Genesis 1:26

The exciting part of this parashot apart from the creation story is when yahweh said ”let us make man in our image”. What a love to make something obviously lesser in your own image . It’s just like making a clay sculpture of yourself ,you would want it to be like you in every way . Yahweh in the same way wants us to be like him loving, merciful and many others.

Yahshua in Matt 5;44 and 45  is encouraging us to behave like our father since we are his image. Yahweh shines sun and sends rain to all whether good or evil ,so we should love one another even our enemies.

To gain forgiveness we have to forgive those who trespass against us.

             NEBI’IM

Josh  1;1-7

As we have begun the race of eternal life having graciously been granted the seven processes and being whole again Yahweh is telling us to be strong and courageous so that we can posses eternal life , doing according to torah which had been given before hand to us .Do not turn from it left or right so that wisdom would show in any of our action.

Lesson learnt

Yahweh is telling us that his words should not depart from our mouth, day and night we should meditate on it.

  • Josh 2

Two men were sent to Jericho to know if the land was good .The men went to Rahab’s house and Rahab protected them. The men made an oath with Rahab to protect her and her family.

Lesson  learnt

Our intention matter in everything we are doing in whatever we say or do only affects 30 percent but our intention has 70 percent effects. Rahab told a lie but the lie was for good cause - to prevent the death of the innocent men.

NEW TESTSMENT

  • mattew 3;8

Yohanan the baptist the fore runner of Yahshua wore clothing made of camel’s skin and a leather belt .He  preached in the wilderness to those that came to him for imersion  telling those  who have gain forgiveness after atonment and left all the former lifestyle of evil,to show forth fruits of worth repentance .That is , living according to the laws of Yahweh and directives of the Holy spirit.

Reference-gal5:16-2

  • Mattew 3;10

Yahshua made us to understand he is the vine and we are the branches . But now  with the same message Yohanan is telling us that we are trees that are expected to bring forth fruits but the tree that does not bear good fruit the axe would cut down and it is thrown into the fire .This here is a pointer to the final day of judgement ,when we would account for our deeds to Yahweh.if our deeds (fruits) are good, we would be harvested but when they are bad we would thrown into the everlasting fire.

  • Matt 4

Yahshua was ted into the wilderness by fire holy spirit and fasted for forty days and forty night . He was tempted three times. The devil came three times to Yahshua to try him ,we too are not above trials. They would surely come . Yahshuaua recognized that was  satan that came to him but we don’t expect him to come visually to us  rather he would instigate us to do something against the will of Yahweh by generating an evil inclination in us of man which we need to fight against . these three lusts of the flesh are man’s weakness.

  1. The urge to satisfy the flesh

The flesh’s urge comes in different ways but it came in form of food to Yahshua. for instance , you find someone's wallet and all of a sudden you want to eat minced pie ,meanwhile you have no money on you . the next thought is to take part of the money in the wallet to enjoy the pie. Such temptation may come our way in various other forms like fornication .

The lesson to learn is that  temptation can to any body just as it came to Yahshua, but He told him that ‘’man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of Yahweh

In the same way we can  combat the devil with scriptural verses .      2. Testing Yahweh with his words

At some point in life we tend to joke ,but test our father .satan can go to any point even as far as bring in bible verses just to convince us , but when we are wise and desening no the form of satan’s strategy you would be on top. Always carry the fear of Yahweh in mind and it would guilde all our actions .

     3. Crave for wealth

Most people want to acuire wealth and can do anthing to get it .fear and faith in Yahweh are keys to avoid this .Yahshua rebuked satan with  Yahweh’s word in faith that he would get the greatest reward imaginable and He did get it because he preferred to honor Yahweh.

After overcoming the devil, the messengers of Yahweh attended to him. In the same way, after every temptation comes a reward so you need to be patient.

  • Matt 5;25

Yahshua is telling  us that we should be mindful of our character and attitude because our enemies may use it against and then , we be given up to the prison.
